Adam
According to the biblical Genesis, Adam
is the name of the first man created by God in His image and likeness
[image, the Creation of Adam by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel] . God formed man from clay; the name of our ancestors is in fact related to the Hebrew word
adhamah (= ground) and must be interpreted as
born from the earth or, in general,
man.
The Biblical Adam is not officially considered to be among the Saints, despite being recalled along with Eva on December 24. The feast day is so often celebrated on May 16, in memory of sant'Adamo abbot of Fermo.
