In Bible Abel is the second son of Adam and Eve, Cain killed by his older brother because the latter was jealous of the preference God had given the offer of a lamb of the flock than the cultivated fruits of Abel by Cain.
The feast day falls on August 5 in memory of Bishop sant'Abele in Reims in sec. VIII.
